News Brief: 1/27-2/2

This week was filled with sports, activities and competitions. Last Friday, our boys basketball team went out and competed at Louisburg. The freshmen came home with a crushing victory of 52-42. However, the JV team fell just short with a 38-50 defeat, yet, the varsity managed to pick up a nice win over the Wildcats with a final score of 61-48.

Over the weekend, the girls basketball team went out to compete at the Top Gun tournament at Piper. The girls played hard throughout the tournament and got second. Way to go ladies!

On Monday, Trent Kawas, 11, won the school-wide Shakespeare Monologue Contest and will be heading to state on Feb. 9.

Tuesday, it was announced that students are now able to print off of their MacBooks in the library. Additionally, the Bronco basketball team hosted the Ottawa Cyclones. The Broncos played hard and although many of our teams suffered a loss, the season still isn’t over, and there will be another chance next Tuesday!

On Wednesday, FFA went out to Paola to compete in poultry, vet science, and farm management competitions. For farm science, Brenden Meek, Colin Guthrie, 10, Jenny Stuteville, Connor Hecke and Ally Tyler, 12, placed 5th as a team. In vet science, Lacey Chadwick, Jayme Cannon-Oliver, 12, and Kate Schoenberg, 10, placed 3rd as a team. Chadwick placed 8th while Schoenberg placed 3rd in this event. Finally, in the poultry department, Sammie LeBlanc, Wyatt O’Leary, Christa Deines, 10, and Michael Dowd, 11, placed 4th as a team. LeBlanc placed 5th in her event and O’Leary placed 9th in his. Great job FFA!

Thursday, FCA had a meeting. Additionally, Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog for Groundhog’s Day, saw his shadow, meaning winter is still coming. Yay…

To wrap up the week, the wrestlers held a dual against Prairie View on Thursday but ended up with a loss: 27 – 44. However, there’s still time left in the season to kick some butt!
