News Brief: 2/3-2/9

With the end of 3rd quarter quickly approaching, all the Broncos have a plethora of activities and work to do. With homecoming and parent teacher conferences coming up, there’s always a lot going on.

On Friday, Feb. 3, the Broncos varsity, JV, and freshmen teams traveled to DeSoto to face the Wildcats. We had some wins and some losses, but all the teams played very well.

To start homecoming spirit week off, Monday was “Beach Day”. Lots of students put on their hawaiian shirts and sandals in order to score some Bronco Pride points for their grade. Scholar’s Bowl met before school to prepare for their next competition. The Spring play, “Arsenic and Old Lace,” just started on Monday the 6th with their first rehearsal. The play will be performed for the public March 31 – April 1.

For Tuesday, it was “Grease Day.” Greasers, jocks and Pink Ladies were roaming the halls. All the basketball teams faced off against the Paola Panthers at Spring Hill. Both boys’ and girls’ JV teams pulled off a win along with the boys’ varsity. During the boys’ varsity game, Trey Heinrich, 12, fell and broke his leg and had to go to the hospital. We’re all sending him positive thoughts and messages.

Wednesday was “Color War”. Juniors pulled off a win with their class color of pink. StuCo, PALS and Hype Squad had meetings. The school also put on their annual “Buff Puff” tournament. Girls coached boys’ volleyball, and the teams compete in a tournament. While all teams fought hard, the senior team, “Face Down; Ace Up,” with players Jacob Crabtree, Trey Cygan, Preston Bell, Trey Hastings, Connor Curry, and Drew Burger, pulled off a win. They were coached by seniors Megan Milroy and Emily Dendy.

To start off Thursday, everyone dressed up from the 50s to continue spirit week. The girls basketball teams traveled to Baldwin to face the Bulldogs. JV wrestling also set off to compete at Jayhawk-Linn. Scholar’s Bowl, FCA and Tri-M also had meetings. The agriculture class, taught by Alicia Hampton, had ten students go to a meats judging contest. Trent Kawas,11, who won the Shakespeare monologue competition last week traveled to compete in the state competition. We wish him good luck!
