100 Word Rant: Too Early for Christmas Music?

It’s one of the most common arguments this time of the year. The first day it hits under 50°, there is a select group of people who believe it is time for Christmas music. However, I believe that is false. There is so much to celebrate before Christmas and to be thankful for. Christmas is like the big sister to Thanksgiving, and Thanksgiving gets overlooked because everyone is rushing to put up trees and buy Christmas presents. We forget to slow down and enjoy the holiday one day at a time. Yes, the season goes fast but that just gives us something to look forward to every year and to savor while it lasts. -Majesta Dixon

Every year I start listening to Christmas music in October. Ever since I can remember, my mom and grandma have started playing it months in advance because they are so excited about the holiday. Christmas has the shortest season, 25 days is not nearly enough time to listen to all of the wonderful cheery music out there. Christmas puts me in a great mood because it brings out the best in a lot of people. There is so much giving and love shared during this season and it’s funny that it takes a holiday for this to happen. So, I start listening to it early, despite all the haters, and begin spreading the Christmas cheer early. All I can say is that there is a reason it is called “the most wonderful time of the year.” -Regan Smith

Growing up, my mom would start playing Christmas music on Nov 1. I honestly don’t care when people play it, though I prefer to listen to it in December. Music has always been my outlet, and if that happens to be Christmas music, so be it; music is music. Walking through the halls, I am always hearing from different people about how they listen to Christmas music in June or how they completely and utterly hate it. I feel that as long as the person listening to it is happy, that’s all that matters. Aside from that, holidays have always been hard for me, so the smallest things mean a lot. The cheer of the holiday season needs to be spread in any way possible. – Loren Reed
