100 Word Rant: Year Long School

100 Word Rant: Year Long School

There has been many conversations among students about if school should be all year round or stay at its normal nine months reign. Most students have never experienced an all year round school ever or known many people who have; so having that happen here would be an experiment everyone could learn and possible benefit from. Although changing the way our school runs would have some major effects on every aspect of our community. I think most students would prefer having their summer off and so do I; so perhaps the year long school idea can wait a little longer.

I honestly think that a year long school schedule could work. I know many kids don’t believe that it, but I think if we have longer and frequent breaks it could work. If they let us take more time off for holidays, like 2 weeks off for thanksgiving and 4 weeks off for christmas then it would work out. Another option would be to have shorter school days. We are at school forever so if the cut done school days it wouldn’t be so bad. If year round school became a thing, maybe we could only have 4 school days.

A lot of schools are thinking of changing to year-round school. While they argue that we would get more frequent breaks and learning would improve, I disagree. Three months of summer isn’t enough for me to recover from the school year. If I only had a few weeks at the end of each quarter to destress, my life would be even more hectic. With a full class schedule, two college classes outside of school, and family obligations I still have time to waste during the school day. Changing to year-round school would waste time and only add to students’ stress.
