Team Skate Triumph

Team Skate Triumph

The first winter olympic event to hit the big screen was a new ice skating event called the team skate. The event took three nights to conclude and the US ended up in 3rd. The event started with ten countries competing in the short program round, hoping to be one of the five countries to make it through to the long program round. During the rounds there is a mens skate, womens skate, dance skate, and pairs skate, however they place determines how many points the get for their country. They then add up all the points for each team, which determines what place your country will be in. The US made it to the second round at third place, and held their position throughout the round, and took home the bronze medal. All the contestants who competed in this event have never been to the olympics before. They all tried their best and the only skater who messed up during their time to shine was Nathan Chen. Chen preformed the men’s short program in the first round and took a few tumbles. The US thought Chen would get first in his section, because of his amazing abilities on the ice. Chen was supposed to do fantastic in his section, so that the US would be in great position to get gold or silver. One of the highlights of the event was when Mirai Nagasu performed in the women’s long program. Nagasu was the first US woman to land the triple axel in an olympic competition. When she landed this difficult move, team US stood up and cheered knowing that Nagasu just made history.
