The Next Big Battle Royale Game?

With rampant success in games like Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and Fortnite, it was no surprise that there are going to be other game studios looking to have a sip of the sweet, sweet battle royale nectar. For game studio Boss Key Production, or the developer of the game LawBreakers, they have created a Steam Early Access title by the name of Radical Heights that is set to launch today, April 10, at the time of writing. The game will be centered around an ‘80s game show with a heavy focus on, you guessed it, BMX bikes. Oh, wait, not what you had in mind? Me neither. It will be interesting to see how that is used in game as it is definitely a different direction from both PUBG and Fortnite. The game, however, focuses more towards cartoony and less realistic graphics similar to that of Fortnite.

The developer Boss Key already tried to make LawBreakers a game to compete against Overwatch, a popular team-based shooter, but ultimately flopped and are now trying to shift their attention towards competing against Fortnite, a game that is so popular that it is almost insane to try to compete against a massive giant in the battle royale genre. Fortnite has established itself in pop culture and you can hear people always asking, “where we droppin’ boys?” whether it be ironically or unironically. Radical Heights has to be a little radical if they hope for their game to survive in this cutthroat market of developers suing one another for copying their battle royale idea. Regardless, it will be interesting to see exactly how well Radical Heights does and if it will be just another flop like LawBreakers.
