Warning! Broncos On The Loose!

Discontinuing Bronco Time and having an open lunch are two things the students of Spring Hill have been wanting for a while now. After a few years of pushing for these two things, the district administration came to a happy medium for everyone. Along with the new section of the school, there has come the addition of Bronco Hour. Bronco Hour is an hour out of the day set aside for lunch, studying and hanging out with your friends. During this time students will be able to go anywhere in the school and eat lunch whenever they want. The question is, will it work?

“I think it will work for everyone’s benefit. I see it more as a napping hour rather than academic, but others might take it for studying,” said Kara Othick, 12.

The student body has been asking for a longer lunch, but no one thought it would be a reality any time soon. Luckily, last year students got the news of a new schedule happening during the next school year, which included this much asked for hour lunch.

“I think only a few years ago Olathe schools started to have it so I feel like we are kind of following in their footsteps that kind of way. After seeing them implement it I think Spring Hill was like we should do that. Last year with home room like it was hard to follow them, because it was at the end of the day, not the middle,” Othick said.

This hour gives students more freedom than they have ever had at the school. Principal Marc Williams has made it clear that if we abuse our freedom, we will lose Bronco Hour for as long as he thinks necessary.

“I think a lot of students will just want to talk to their friends and favorite teachers so we won’t get work done. So hopefully students won’t abuse their freedoms,” said Othick.
