For many years, Spring Hill families relied on Sonic or Pizza Hut to offer their families a quick dinner. Slowly, the town has expanded in small ways such as BB’s Grill going in off of Webster, or the new snow cone shop by the elementary school. ‘What could a small town like Spring Hill be missing?’ asked Tyler and Crystil Graves, the current owners of the Bean Coffee Co.

“When we moved here two years ago we noticed that a coffee shop was one thing missing from the town. At the time I was pregnant and there was nowhere to go. As a new mom, I wanted a spot to go and enjoy a good quality cup of coffee and there just wasn’t a place to go at the time,” said C. Graves.

After seeking out the best fit for The Bean Coffee Co, 112 S Main Street became the prime spot. Tyler and Crystil Graves started the process of opening up Spring Hill’s very own local coffee shop.

“Main Street was not our first spot we looked at, although we happened to be driving down Main Street a random Sunday and saw the building was for lease. I had a feeling this building would be the right fit for us. It gave me the coffee vibe and it worked out perfectly with the landlord. We are grateful we choose Main Street as our location,” said C. Graves.

Many who have lived in Spring Hill know that a coffee shop is exactly what the town needed. Students will no longer have to drive to Gardner or Olathe to get their daily dose of morning coffee. Students also don’t have to drive long distances to do their studying for finals, or to get their nightly homework achieved. The local coffee shop has affected students in small ways they all appreciate.

“The Bean is a comfortable environment to work at and they have a wide range of seating. I go to The Bean because I can have a place to work at without getting bothered in a peaceful environment,” said Megan Riddle, 11.

The Bean has an atmosphere where students feel comfortable coming to do their homework while being able to enjoy a quality cup of coffee from a local shop.

“We want a place for the residents and students to feel welcomed and have a good atmosphere environment with quality food and drink items for the community to enjoy,” said C. Graves.

It is important for Tyler and Crystil Graves to have a local coffee shop where students and the community feel comfortable to come and do work or homework in their shop.

“Students who go to The Bean regularly say they enjoy the frappes the most. I’ve noticed my peers often invite their friends to go with them after school to hangout or before school to get a drink all while finishing their homework. The student body really seems to enjoy The Bean,” said Riddle.

The Bean continues to support the community in various of ways along with welcoming students in each and everyday to make the atmosphere an even more positive place.
