The flute section stands for their feature during the winter concert on Dec. 12.

Dec. 12, after a weeks of hard work and dedication, the high school’s jazz and concert band came together for a holiday themed concert.

“I think it went better than I could hope for, so very well,” said Dan Wooge, band director.

The auditorium was full and ready to hear their children, friends and family all play there heart out on the stage. The Jazz band would go first starting their set with “Comfort and Joy” arranged by Rick Hirsch and ending with “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” arranged by Mike Story.

After the audience was stunned by the jazz band the concert band sitting in the back of the theater jumped into action getting on the stage to perform their set. Which included everything from “The Glory of Christmas” arranged by Elliot Del Borgo to “We Wish You a Mambo Christmas” arranged by Erik Morales

“It was a different atmosphere…the seniors played this our freshman year as well so it’s just a different perspective from when you’re doing it as beginner style to now doing it at a professional level,” said Stephen Mitchell, 12, percussion section leader.

However, as Mitchell prepares to leave the band many freshman look forward to their future and appreciate the change from middle school to high school.

“It was a lot more professional [then middle school concerts]…there was a lot more being involved…overall it was a much better experience,” said Ethan Carpenter, 9.

The band worked hard it showed as the wood winds blew, the percussion beat and the brass blasted (Asia Beck, 11, sang) you could see the pure joy on the faces of the young musicians.
