Fox News Sued for Defamation

On March 26, Dominion Voting filed a defamation lawsuit against Fox News for $1.6 billion. The company claims that the news outlet falsely accused them of altering election results in order to boost their ratings.
“Fox sold a false story of election fraud in order to serve its own commercial purposes, severely injuring Dominion in the process. If this case does not rise to the level of defamation by a broadcaster, then nothing does,” said the lawsuit.
Dominion claims that they reached out to Fox News several times to clarify that there was no fraudulent activity, but they were repeatedly ignored. At one point, a Dominion employee – Eric Coomer – actually had to go into hiding as a result of death threats being made against him as a result of the false information being spread by this news outlet.
Fox News has since pledged to fight the “baseless lawsuit,” and had filed four motions to dismiss separate instances of legal action taken against the news outlet. During the 2020 presidential election, Fox employees claimed that machines had been rigged in a Venezuelan election to keep the late Hugo Chavez in office (this has since been disproven).
Dominion is also seeking $1.3 billion in damages from Sidney Powell, Rudy Giuliani, and Mike Lindell.
