“You can’t compare anything to Daytona, not only are you going against schools from all around the world, you’re going to put your name and your school out there,” Jonathan Escudero, the captain for FAU’s large coed cheer team, said after securing their spot as collegiate national champions. Florida Atlantic University’s Intermediate Small Coed Division I cheer team took one of the greatest titles that a college level cheer team can hold.

Cheerleading, being an activity that is often looked at as not competitive and easy, is quite overlooked. NCA nationals sweeps social media apps every year leaving the cheerleaders invested and the non-cheerleaders scrolling, but every year the national competition reaches the heart and opens the eyes of someone who never would have seen the activity as anything more than background noise. FAU’s win took months of hardwork and every year more people are able to realize how much of an honor it is to hold that title.
