Yesterday, Aug. 27, a 3,500 year old jar was accidentally knocked over into pieces by a four year old boy. This artifact originates from the Bronze Age between 2200 and 1500 BC. The jar was being held in Isreal at the Hecht Museum and was damaged when the young boy pulled on the jar out of curiousity. The museum displays this jar near the entrance without glass as they believe this creates a “special charm.”
A specialists has been scheduled to restore the jar and it is said that it will return to display. Despite this accident, the museum has stated that it intends to continue their tradition of having certain artifacts displayed without glass. The experience that comes with a trip to the museum is built around looking at items without obstructions and barriers.
