The month of September is Suicide Prevention Month. This year the high school’s Zero Reasons Why club has been taking a bigger role in spreading awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. Club representatives have been giving coping and mindfulness strategies over the announcements every morning.
Morgan Hinton, 11, is one of the representatives that has been giving strategies to the student body every morning. They have decided to join and take on a role in the club this school year. Hinton wants to crush the stigma around mental health struggles so that we ultimately prevent the occurrence of suicide.
“There was definitely a time where I struggled with my mental health, and I didn’t have a ton of people to help me with that. So being there as someone that people can just talk to, and make it easier to talk about is really important to me,” Hinton said.
If you are struggling with your mental health, reach out to a peer, a trusted adult, or call 988. You are loved and it gets better.
