Brazilian mayoral candidate Pablo Marcal was hospitalized after being struck with an iron chair by a fellow candidate, Jose Luiz Datena. The attack was a result of Marcal bringing up allegations of sexual harassment against Datena, though the allegations were dismissed several years prior due to a lack of evidence. The New York Times reported that Datena said, “I made a mistake, but I don’t regret it in any way.” Due to his outburst of anger, Datena may not be able to continue his campaign.
Though this happened many miles away in South America, things like this also occur in the US. People lose their tempers and take their anger out on others, both in political situations and interactions between everyday citizens. Doing this may cause one to lose progress or soil their reputation.
