On Wednesday, Oct. 1, 25 students traveled to Harvester’s, a food bank in Kansas City, Missouri. The trip was sponsored by the volunteer club; it was their first community service trip of the year. Students spent several hours in the middle of the day unpacking boxes of onions and checking for impurities, then they rebagged the good onions. Students sorted around 1,000 onions in about two hours.
The volunteer club takes several trips to Harvester’s every year, never with a specific goal in mind. They spend a few hours helping out with tasks around their warehouse on each trip.
“I really enjoy being able to have a good time with some of my friends while making an impact in the community,” Danny Heinen, 11, co-organizer of the Oct. 1 trip, said.
