Candy corn– A fall snack loved by many people. A small, simple candy that sports the colors seasonal orange, yellow, and white. Sounds delicious and sweet, right?
Wrong!
Well…maybe? Personally, candy corn isn’t necessarily bad, but the texture can be strange, and otherwise it can be too sweet. But, overall, candy corn isn’t that awful unless I eat too much of it.
The rest of SPUB is certainly divided; some hate it, some love it, some don’t really care. An opinion that stood out was Kayley Tran’s, 11, opinion.
“When I was little, I used to eat candy corn, but I was never obsessed with it. I don’t really have strong opinions about it,” Tran said, “I don’t ever crave it or specifically buy it, but it does give me a nostalgic feeling sometimes.”
This opinion interested me because I remember being infatuated with candy corn when I was younger. I could happily eat it all day, every day, until that changed when I got older, and now I can only eat it every once in a while without my stomach hurting from all the sugar.
Another opinion, not similar at all to Tran’s, stood out to me.
“It’s a downgraded marshmallow in every aspect: both in taste and texture. The texture has a gritty quality with no satisfaction after biting into it, and it makes my gag reflex heighten,” Hannah Mueller, 12, said, “I could only compare it to biting into straight styrofoam; which I can attest, is a sensory nightmare.”
Numerous people agreed that candy corn has an awful texture, and I know a few reporters in SPUB would disagree, and say that the texture is appetizing.
“I am a huge texture person, and the chewy, waxy texture candy corn has is very appealing to me,” Brynna Pierson, 12, said, “I think it is such a staple for fall and Halloween and has been around for years.”
In my opinion, candy corn is a huge staple for Halloween. The colors are iconic, the corn shape itself is iconic, and all around, I would say that candy corn, and of itself, is iconic.
Holly Lichtenauer, 10, agreed that candy corn is a fall staple, but wishes it was available during more seasons than just autumn.
“It’s absolutely my favorite candy ever, and I hate that it’s only in the fall,” Lichtenauer said, “I wish it could be all year round.”
Everyone has their own thoughts on candy corn, so being able to agree to disagree with each others is necessary in being able to work together.
