On Oct. 22, the CDC alerted that there was a severe food safety concern regarding the Quarter Pounder burgers at McDonalds. There was Escherichia Coli, commonly known as E. Coli, found in their burgers. The latest update shows that there has been 75 reported cases across 13 different states, which is an increase from the initial infection. It is believed that the bacteria was caused by the onions from Taylor Farms, and restaurants who do not source from them have continued serving Quarter Pounders. This has led Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Burger King, and KFC to remove fresh onions from their menu.
It is believed that there are more than 75 people who have gotten sick from this outbreak. This contamination caused an older man from Colorado to pass away. Colorado reported the most cases from this outbreak as well. The number of cases are only expected to increase due to the delay in action by McDonalds. Many lawsuits have been filed against McDonald’s in response to their E. Coli diagnosis. This situation has encouraged more people to carefully consider the food they are putting in their bodies and what it can truly do to them.
