On Tuesday afternoon, the Givaudan Sense Colour factory, which produces colorings for food and drinks, exploded due to a missing pressure relief valve. This explosion killed two workers and injured ten, this also caused damage to a nearby neighborhood. The homes are still standing, but there is some structural damage. Pictures hanging are now on the floor, and windows are shattered in. In April 2003, there was an explosion at the same location that killed one factory worker.
There was no suspicious activity before the explosion. The explosion was unexpected, and has caused high anxiety in Louisville since the incident. Residents of neighboring cities are raising concerns about factory safety, not only for workers, but also those living nearby.
