At the start of every school year fall activities begin. For people who do football, volleyball, the musical, or other activities as their only sport, all time after school is dedicated to their hobby. For me, spending hours on producing a successful production of the fall musical, Beauty and the Beast, was my passion for the first three months of school. Monday through Friday, for over two hours after school, I would do what I love and do my part on to make the show come together. When the time came, the cast and crew ‘left everything on the stage’, a common phrase in theater meaning give it your all no matter what. After you leave it all on the stage or finish your project, sport, or show, what’s next? That time spent making, practicing, or competing in something takes dedication and takes up mostly all free time. When all is said and done many take up a new hobby or try something different when that time is freed up.
I’m involved in many organizations inside of school that take up lots of my schedule, but once my single after school activity was over I decided to start reading again. Before high school started and all of my time was filled up with activities I read almost every day, so I figured with my new gap of time after school I should open a book. I also have started drawing in my free time which is letting me express myself while finding a creative outlet. While this fills in the time, it’s difficult to find something that fulfills the same need for performance or just the feeling of being part of a production. Nothing can take the place of musical theatre in my life.
