On Dec. 8, the Kansas City Chiefs fought for the AFC West division title. At the end of the game, the Los Angeles Chargers had pulled ahead. It looked like the Chiefs had a rare loss in their future. However, in the final second of the game, the Chiefs had the opportunity for a field goal. As Matthew Wright kicked the football, it looked like it was veering too far off, but it hit the edge of the goalpost and bounced right in. Announcers called it the “Doink for the Division.”
In the last few years, football has become a lot more popular in Kansas City. As the Chiefs progressively got better and continued to make it to the Superbowl, fans got more and more invested in the game. The barbecues and get-togethers held all over the states have strengthened people’s sense of comradery within their state.
