On Dec. 10, a man, who was reported as dead, flew back into the U.S.. Ryan Borgwardt, 45, had previously faked their own death due to “personal matters” and came back for his family that lived in Watertown, Wisconsin. Once they landed, the sheriff’s department was notified and they were taken to the county jail. Now, they await a court case for multiple charges.
Borgwardt flew in from Eastern Europe after three months of disappearing and had contacted the police beforehand. In August, Borgwardt had tipped over his kayak, sunk their phone, and floated on a inflatable boat. They then rode a bike across Madison, Wisconsin, took a bus to Detroit and Canada, and then got on a plane to go somewhere in eastern Europe. They now face charges, like obstruction, once announced alive and after a $35,000 body search took place.
