On Jan. 21, winter weather has been wreaking havoc across the United States. Temperatures across the Midwest have bottomed out to record-breaking lows. In Kansas City, the negative nine degree reading broke the old record from 1935 of negative six. Topeka also broke their record, dropping to -12. Additionally, a winter storm is hitting the Gulf Coast, creating the first ever known blizzard warning in Louisiana.
Cold temperatures like these affect buses and schools. Many schools use a two-hour delay schedule to make time for temperatures to warm up and for buses to get over any mechanical issues. Temperatures this cold can cause frostbite in a matter of minutes, according to the National Weather Service. Don’t forget to bundle up!
