On Jan. 21, there was a two hour late start district wide due to freezing temperatures. Buses were delayed due to the freezing temperatures while kids had a two hour delay and a schedule with only 30 minute classes. Even though students had the ability to sleep in for a couple more hours, teachers were still mandated to come to school at the normal 7:45 a.m. For teachers who have kids in pre-k, elementary, middle school, or even high school, that late start became an issue.
“I had the choice of looking at it in one of two ways. The first way could’ve been like, ‘Ugh, I’ve got to deal with my kids being at school where they would have to be on their best behavior. Or… I could look at it like I have two hours of preparation time where my kids will be here.’ It all worked out okay, and while it was a little irritating in the grand scheme of things it wasn’t life-altering,” Abby Stallbaumer, staff, said.
Overall, the late start wasn’t a huge deal, but to many it was a new situation that our district wasn’t acclimated to.
