On Jan. 22, a California woman was arrested after 27 horses were found deceased spread across her properties. Jan Johnson from Clements was taken to the San Joaquin County Jail. They were charged with cruelty to an animal, threatening a public official, criminal threats, and possession of a short-barrel shotgun. Sheriff deputies and animal service officers executed a search warrant for her property.
The warrant was used to search Johnson’s properties due to an ongoing animal neglect investigation. A county sheriff’s officer shared that during the operation, there were several malnourished horses discovered on the premises with a limited access to food and water. It was approximated that 27 horses were found deceased. Despite appearances, it is wise to remain observant in order to help protect all animals.
