In May, Miami County voters will decide whether or not to pass a bond. The bond is a proposal to add extra space to the high school, fix the HVAC system and repair the roofs at SHES.
“We are in desperate need of growth in our building. We already have one teacher who is in a hallway for her classroom. Freeing up CTE classrooms that are being used for our programming into a new building will allow us to accommodate that growth with regular general education teachers,” Alicia Hampton, agriculture teacher, said, “I think CTE is really important, so having the facilities to provide all of those opportunities to kids is awesome.”
Voters have been concerned about whether or not the bond will increase their taxes; however, the bond is an addition to an old mill levy. A mill levy is a way for local governments to fund schools and roads using the value of a property. Since this bond is an add on to a mill levy, there will not be a tax increase.
