This past weekend both boys and girls wrestling competed at the Kansas State Wrestling Championships. The team delivered an impressive performance as multiple top placements were earned in both the boys and girls divisions. In the boys division, Avery Bartek, 12, finished in second as well as Gage Wingerter, 12, who placed fourth. In the girls division, Ellie Ruffin, 12, got second and Campbell Mermis, 12, took home the state title. Mermis made history as Spring Hill’s first female wrestler state champion.
“I couldn’t have done it without the team and my coaches. They all contributed so much to my journey. I have never wanted anything so bad in my entire life, and it was finally the moment I have been preparing for for four years. It was the most surreal feeling ever,” Mermis said.
The high school congratulates the athletes and coaches for their success and dedication throughout this season.
