The closing night of The Outsiders ended with many tears, hugs, and reminiscing on the first standing ovation that bronco theater was given for a play. While of course the process was incredible, refocusing on a storyline many students grew to love in eighth grade, the feedback that theater students have gotten from the show made all of the tech calls, rehearsals, and show week worth it.
This was my first, and last, musical production for my high school career. I couldn’t have been more grateful and appreciative for the turn out. Fellow SPUBers were able to attend the show.
“When I showed up to the first night of dress rehearsals to take pictures of the show I expected to remember every detail from reading the book in 8th grade, however I most certainly did not. While capturing the first complete run through of the show that night there were obviously some bumps along the road, although it was fun to see the personalities of the cast shine through when someone missed a cue or there was a slight slip up,” Madi Brown, 11, said. “Opening night when I went to see the show without the distraction of a camera in my hands, I was shocked to see the transformation the show had made in just three short days.”
SPUB gave students a unique opportunity to see the show before it was finished. I think it’s so special to be able to see some of the staff’s thoughts before the rest of the school.
“I got to see the Outsiders on closing night and it was fantastic! I also took photos on the first dress rehearsal night, and the difference in acting was staggering. I could truly see and experience the improvement that the actors made, and since the cast was mainly seniors, the acting was superb. I feel it was the best play I’ve seen our school put on. The production was well done, and the story, especially the emotion behind the story, was superbly executed,” Danny Heinen, 11, said.
Theater has given me the opportunity to grow closer to so many people and to introduce students in SPUB to a different form of art. Being in a space where everyone gets to see the behind the scenes of different activities and clubs is a unique experience that I would not change for the world. Whether it’s being able to share what’s happening in theater or hearing about sports and volunteer, being in SPUB is beyond valuable.
Signing off on theater has made me realize that I truly don’t have that much time left in high school. In some aspects this makes me sad; however, going off on such a loved and appreciated play has made the process entirely worth it.
