On April 12, students gathered at Embassy Suites to dance the night away at prom. This is the first prom in many years to be hosted at a location other than the school. As students entered the hotel, there was a red carpet and student photographers. Then they checked in using their tickets on GoFan. As they entered the dance, lights shined blue to fit the theme “A Midnight to Remember.” While many students gathered on the dance floor. Others stopped by the photo booth, hung out at tables, and mingled throughout the ball room. Popular songs of the night were Fien, Dancing Queen, and The Cha-Cha Slide.
Prom is an exciting night for juniors, seniors, and invited guests. Many look forward to the event for months, scheduling beauty appointments, buying or renting dresses and suits, and planning dinner and photo locations. Prom is hosted by the junior class each year, allowing students to vote on themes. AfterProm is hosted by a committee of parents and community members. This year, it was hosted at BRKThrough. This included small break-out rooms including mental, physical, and skill based games. Teams competed against each other, earning points when they won a room. Seniors got to spin a wheel deciding if they won a TV, a surround sound system, headphones, and various other prizes. Juniors were awarded a gift card.
“[BRKThrough] was harder than I thought it would be, but I still had a great time. It was a little bit different than I thought it would be because there was something for everyone whether it was physical, mental or skill. You didn’t have to be athletic,” Kristen Kohn, 12 said.
The goal of AfterProm is to keep students from making reckless decisions after the dance. The AfterProm Committee is looking for new parents to take over the event, as the leadership’s children are graduating. Interested parents should contact [email protected].
