On the morning of April 14, Katy Perry, along with five other women traveled into space on an flight that lasted for 11 minutes. The all female crew went more than 60 miles above Earth. Two of the other women included Jeffrey Bezos’s fiancee, Lauren Sanchez, a helicopter pilot, and Gayle King, a friend of Oprah Winfrey. Perry used their space trip as an opportunity to promote their upcoming concert and after the trip, they claimed that they would write a song about their experience.
There has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding the trip, some criticism even coming from other celebrities. This has been seen by many as an unnecessary expedition that only managed to make them seem “out of touch”. While in space, Perry serenaded their space companions by singing “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong, only furthering the critiques from the public.
