Daphne Mullies:
How many productions have you been a part of in and outside of SHHS?
-
- “I used to do theatre when I was a kid, but it wasn’t really like a big theatre. It was kind of just at this place called ‘Culture House’ in Spring Hill. But I was a part of the Zombie Prom production in my sophomore year, and I did the Music Man in my junior year. Both backstage and as actors, but mostly tech for Zombie Prom. So three productions now.”
- What makes the play productions so different from the musical productions?
- “I feel like with the musical there’s a lot more people. At least with the productions we’ve done there’s an ensemble cast whereas the Outsiders cast had a much smaller ensemble.”
- What was your first reaction to finding out the play was The Outsiders?
- I was pretty happy just cause it was a book that I remember really liking whenever I was in middle school. I also had no idea that we could even do that type of thing, cause I didn’t realize there was a production for it, so it was really exciting.”
- What was it like to prepare for the role of a character in a story that you studied during school?
- “It was really interesting. This was the first time that I’d gotten a named role in a production and I had been a part of the ensemble in the past. It was really different in terms of like, how it was preparing for this show, but it was also kind of still a little but familiar because it was based on a book that I had some familiarity with.”
- What did you take away from this production?
- “I think that the whole group that we had together, even though it did get kind of tough because people did kind of get irritable, we all kind of stuck together and we all kind of understood each other and grew a bond.”
Andon Mattox:
- How many productions have you been a part of in and outside of SHHS?
- Seven.
- What makes the play productions so different from the musical productions?
- They [musical productions] come together a lot quicker because you don’t have to deal with, you know, choreography and singing. I’m gonna be so honest, musical productions are a lot more fun because I like singing, but that’s probably just me. [Play productions are a lot more staging and fight choreography that comes together a lot faster].”
- What was your first reaction to finding out the play was the Outsiders?
- I immediately bought the book again and read through it again. I also bought the script. I was kind of try-harding. I was so hype for it, like more hype than I was for Beauty and the Beast, and it ended up being my favorite show I’ve ever done.”
- What was it like to prepare for the role of a character in a story that you studied during school?
- I’m not gonna lie, the first time I didn’t really read it. I just kind of looked up the answers, it was middle school, so I didn’t really care. But then when I read it again, I was like, whoa, this is cool. I remember liking the movie the first time, but I can’t say the same thing now.”
- What did you take away from this production?
- “It was just nice to support each other after a, like, dark production, you know? It was nice to be able to put some humor into that still, it was really nice.”
