There are many professional athletes across the world; Some play tennis, some play volleyball, some even play tag. I remember watching the Olympics back in July and watching so many professionals do what they do best. There was Simone Biles, twisting and turning everywhere she went. There was Sha’Carri Richardson, winning her first gold medal at her Olympics debut.
The entirety of SPUB was divided on what sport they would choose to play. Not only to play, but to also be a champion at it.
“If I were a world champion of any sport, I would love to be recognized as a champion powerlifter,” Hadley Booze, 11, said, “Showing my true strength and being able to be who I am. What I do now, of course, is not to set me towards a champion but lifting for me is a silencer towards the outside world. The gym is my second home and being able to lift allows me to become very confident in myself.”
I think it’s great that so many people chose sports based on how much more powerful it would make them, but there is also the other side of people choosing a sport they think is fun or mesmerizing.
“If I could be a world champion of any sport, I would want to be the champion of figure skating,” Mallory Marmon, 11, said, “I’m not good at skating or dancing, but I’ve always admired skaters because it’s such a technical sport and it requires a lot of hard work and coordination. It’s very interesting to watch and I think it would be fun to do if I was good at it.”
Personally, I’d like to think I would want to do the same thing and be a professional figure skater. I agree that figure skating is an elegant and graceful sport, and I also think that because I’ve never been good at skating, it would be cool to be able to do figure skating.
Although many SPUB members wrote very well known sports, there was one opinion that definitely stood out to me.
If I were to be the best at any sport I would be the world’s best professional tag player,” Ava Rushing, 12, said, “Sometimes when I am bored I watch professional tag competitions and every single time I am impressed at how difficult they make it look and the seriousness in which they take themselves…I think I would have much fun with it.”
Overall, many SPUB members chose sports based on skill, based on how much fun they would have, or just choosing based on how much they admire the sport. There’s so many professionals out there, and they can be so inspirational towards people looking to become a champion at a new sport.
