The last few weeks, our FFA chapter has taken both time before school as well as after school to practice and prepare for state career development events. Freshmen-Seniors are eligible to go compete in numerous different contests that vary from Farm Management to showing your knowledge about plants in the floriculture contest.
“For the last 2 weeks I have studied by memorizing tests, since that is where most of your points [from your contest] come from. So just repeating, it’s going to be tiring but repeating what you do to practice everyday and get better.” Keara Simpson, 12, said.
Simpson is off to compete in Food Science and Agriculture Communications, while Landrie Newman, 12 is competing in Farm Business Management and Horse Evaluation.
“[In order to be successful at qualifying for state] i’d say put effort into it [your contest] and actually go to state, because it is actually a lot of fun, and its not just being stuck in a room for 48 hours before your contests, you get to go hangout with friends as well as study for your contests.” Landrie Newman, 12, said.
Having this opportunity to present yourself with your knowledge about a contests allows for new opportunities like winning state to then go compete at the national level in Indianapolis.
