On Friday, May 2, a record-breaking 10,518 fans attended a U.S. women’s rugby team game at the Canadian Pacific Kansas City stadium. This was especially shocking as the stadium typically hosts KC Current games, Kansas City’s local women’s soccer team. Plus, many attendees hold season passes for the stadium and decided to go on whim, still enjoying the game despite not regularly attending rugby matches.
This is significant for the Kansas City area to experience, as the stadium already brings in a major amount of revenue from matches by the local team; however, having surprise appearances from national rugby teams brings in even more revenue to the area. The popularity of such a game shows an increase in interest in rugby as a whole.
