On May 8, the Vatican City Cardinals elected a new pope, who happens to be from Chicago, Illinois. They were the first person from the US to be elected as pope. Robert Francis Prevost, the electee, chose to take on the name Leo XIV. Prevost addressed the crowd at the Sistine Chapel in not only Italian, but also Spanish. They worked at a diocesan bishop in Peru, and were congratulated by many world leaders around the world.
With the global Catholic population being around 1.4 billion people, this is a huge announcement for individuals all around the world. Many people are estacitc what will become of the first American-born pope.
