On Tuesday, September 2, search-and-rescue teams were sent to find a helicopter that had gone missing over the forests of Borneo, Indonesia the previous day. There were eight people on board; three of them were foreign nationals – an American, a Brazilian, and an Indian. A total of 140 personel set out by land and air to sweep the area. “Hopefully, with everyone’s prayers, today’s operation will be successful and we will be able to find the location of the incident,” said I Putu Sudayana, head of the Banjarmasin Search and Rescue Agency. The helicopter was found in the afternoon on Sept. 3.
The makeup of the search-and-rescue team is an inspiration for our community. It was not solely made up of emergency professionals; there were military members, police, local agencies, and residents involved. We, as a community, can come together when situations like this arise. We don’t just have to leave it to the professionals.
