On Monday, Sept. 22, Trump said on TV that pregnant woman should never take Tylenol because of its theorized link to an increased rate of autism. Experts, however, say that there are many factors that cause autism, a complex and genetic developmental condition, and no singular gene or medication is the root factor. Some studies have linked the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy to autism, but according to the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, untreated fever in pregnancy can cause much more severe effects, including miscarriage.
Dr. Steven Fleischman, president of American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, believes that these claims over the use of Tylenol and other similar drugs which could spark fear in those who use them.
