StuCo & SPUB Members Attend Regional Conferences

SPUB members pose after spending a day at KU for the fall KSPA conference. They met plenty of new people, learned new skills, and brainstormed new ideas.

Earlier this week, members of StuCo attended the annual KSHSAA regional conference at Mill Valley and members of SPUB attended the annual Kansas Scholastic Press Association fall conference at KU. Both groups learned how to enhance their collaboration skills, and SPUB members got the chance to enhance their writing, design, and photography skills.

“I think that going to conferences like the one we went to today really impact how we grow to become better student journalists. [Some] of the main things we learn are different techniques to make our content better by talking to different people, learning about their experiences, and trying new things that we can use to incorporate different types of journalism [into our content],” said Olivia Shultze, 11.

Hellooo! My name is Mia, I’m a sophomore and this is my first year in SPUB! I’m a reporter, which means I interview and write! I’ve always loved writing so when I found out I could take Journalism my first year, I was beyond excited! Journalism matters to me because I like to write about topics I see as important (Mental health and emotions). I want people to read these stories and know they aren’t alone. This year in SPUB, I’m excited to make new friends within the class! Outside of me writing or working on homework, I’m most likely hanging out with my friends or playing guitar :)
