Why are there four different options for my math class? Why is there a targeted seminar? Why are there AP classes? What certain classes require out of school work? What even is Agriculture? The school, while not the largest, has many different layers.
When it comes to growing and learning, I think it’s crucial to have varying resources at your disposal. However, the only issue is the discovery of these opportunities in the first place. I think that our school provides plenty of opportunities, especially based on the population and diversity, but I do wish we had more language and arts classes because when it comes to the deeper versions of these classes, there isn’t much to offer. For example, Olathe North High School has many, many more history and language classes, which is partly due to its diversity. While I don’t fully believe those classes wouldn’t take on as strong here, I still think they’re crucial.
Despite this, from the arts to algebra, our high school provides a variety of basic classes. For many people, including myself, recognizing these opportunities can be difficult and confusing. Every year there’s something new or interesting, but half the time it goes unnoticed. In my opinion, a deep dive into the different branches of the high school’s opportunities seems long overdue. So, from the core classes to the almost hidden extracurriculars, I hope to help anyone wanting to learn through this series.
