This week is Red Ribbon Week, an awareness campaign focused on preventing drug and alcohol use in schools. On Wednesday, Oct. 22, students and teachers involved with the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) program at the high school gathered together to make posters and encourage students against making destructive decisions.
“We want to promote drug awareness so that we can limit usage and drug abuse because the effects are detrimental,” Addison Lightcap, 12, said.
Sponsors were also involved in the event.
“It’s a week where we honor a former DA agent [who] was murdered [while fighting drug trafficking],” Madeline Kohler, SADD sponsor, said. “We are wearing red and everyone is [encouraged] to sign a banner to be “drug free. [The program] informs students across schools by showing videos and more.”
