From Oct. 25-26, Hurricane Melissa quickly escalated into a Category 5 hurricane with winds up to 160 mph. It is expected to make landfall tomorrow morning in Jamaica and it will be the strongest hurricane to hit the island. On the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 27, Jamaica is currently experiencing tropical storm conditions, which will worsen into more extreme conditions as the storm nears.
Mandatory evacuation orders were issued by the Jamaican government on Sunday. While Jamaica is going to get hit the hardest, Cuba has issued a hurricane warning, the Bahamas have issued a hurricane watch, and Haiti has issued a tropical storm warning. Residents across these areas will need to informed and take all necessary precautions to stay safe.
