Hollywood Harassment

Hollywood+Harassment

Lately, an uproar of sexual harassment among the well-known has soared to great extremes. Just about everyday is another face on the news, or on the internet for the same reason. Sexual allegations, sexual harassment, rape; all of these things from years ago are resurfacing today.

It has been said that many of the victims are afraid to step forward and say something in fear of losing their jobs, gaining a bad reputation, or being attacked by the allegated. Many of these stories, particularly those in Hollywood and the media, are centered around men who have allegedly abused or harassed people in lower positions of power.

It’s a real problem, and the happenings in Hollywood draw undue attention to the problem.

October 5, a mention of producer Harvey Weinstein’s actions went wild. From then on, more and more women have come forward to talk about some situation in which they found themselves a victim of some form of sexual harassment or assault. People on social media are joining in with the hashtag #metoo.

More and more women are being pressured to come forward and be open about what happened, and continue to do so. Several are still unsure if that’s the right decision, but many have also decided that those responsible must be held accountable.

Over 40 men have been accused, and recently, The Today Show host Matt Lauer had several women report sexual misconduct. Lauer was the most paid anchor of all time, and got laid off due to the accusations being true. “I am truly sorry,” he said. Is he? Are any of them?
