Recapping the Oscars
Love, war and billboards. This pretty much sums up the nominations of the 90th annual Academy Awards, also known as The Oscars. Unlike the previous year’s Oscars, there were no mis-labeled envelopes this time around.
After some recent harassment and equality scandals in Hollywood, many people were looking at The Oscars to see what would be said regarding these events. Some of the stars, such as Frances McDormand who won best actress for her performance in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri,” used their platform to speak out about the Times Up movement and other social issues during their acceptance speeches.
As for the actual movie portion of The Oscars, it didn’t disappoint either. One of the biggest and most talked about movies was “The Shape of Water” which had a grand total of 13 nominations. It ended up winning many awards which included Best Picture. Guillermo Del Toro also won best director for his work in “The Shape of Water.” Some other big awards included Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour) for best actor, Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri) for best supporting actor, Allison Janney (I, Tonya) for best supporting actress, “Get Out” for best original screenplay, “Call Me By Your Name” for best adapted screenplay, “Dunkirk” for best film editing and “Coco” for best animated feature.
Even though there’s a full year until the next Academy Awards, movies coming out this year could be nominated for the 2019 show, so keep an eye out for the next big movie.
