The Concert and Chamber Orchestras performed their winter concert on December 9 to rave reviews.

“I thought it was really amazing…they had beautiful music,” said Olivia Lister, 10.

A lot of hard work went into making the pieces as beautiful as they were.

“[We have been working on the music] since before Halloween,” said Julia Bigus, 11, Chamber Orchestra’s concertmaster.

The evidence of that hard work was clear last night, as the Chamber orchestra performed a difficult collegiate-level piece masterfully.

The Concert orchestra had several successes as well.

“Some of the measures we were having trouble with in rehearsal went perfectly,” said Lauren Dougan, 10, Concert Orchestra concertmaster.

The concert opened with four pieces played by the Concert orchestra: “Brandenburg No. 2,” “Symphony No. 25,” “Dreamer’s Farewell,” and “English Carol.” After that, the Chamber orchestra took the stage, performing “Nocturne” and “Capriol,” before being rejoined by the Concert for the final section which included “Charlie Brown Christmas” and “Home for the Holidays.”

While both students and audience members had their favorites among these pieces, they are all important.

“They are all relevant, and they are all necessary, and they are all imperative to [the musicians’]education,” said Taygun Ozakinci, Orchestra director.

There was nothing but praise from all who attended the concert, said Ozakinci, adding “I heard many compliments from students to parents and the administration as well.”

Now, the orchestra will begin preparing for their spring concert, where they plan on putting on just as impressive show.
