Scholars Bowl Team Competes at League
On Jan. 14, the league scholars bowl team led by Lily Kuhn, captain, 11, traveled to Bonner Springs High School to attend their league meet. The team placed fifth out of nine teams. Brianna Gulley, 12, Liz Wilson, 12, Ashlyn Manderfeild, 11, Kris Nelson-Brantley, 11 and Beth Baum, 12, competed alongside Kuhn.
“Overall, I think we did really good,” said Stephanie Hojancki, scholars bowl coach, “they were answering more questions then we are sometimes able to they were confident a little bit quicker than some tournaments.”
The team struggled due to the set up of the meet.
“The tournaments are win lose based instead of by points we won a lot of points… but we just happened to lose to the wrong teams and it kind of set us back a little bit,” explained Liz Wilson.
The entire scholars bowl team in continuing to practice before schools Monday and Thursday before school to get better, in preparation for the regionals meet.
“We are really trying to work on our reaction time because even though we know a lot of stuff quickness is key in scholars bowl, so we just need to work on that,” said Gulley.
The Varsity team has a few more regular season tournaments to attend before they compete at regionals in Schlagle the first week of February. That is the meet that decides if they go to state or not.
