Powderpuff: Football Fundraiser
Each year, the junior and senior class participate in a Powderpuff competition to raise money for the After-Prom committee. Although this year has put a hold on many events, students still managed to rally together for this cause. Powderpuff games always draw attention because senior girls play flag-football against junior girls, and the guys on the football team coach them.
Meredith Todd, 12, said, “I loved having the boys coach us, even though they can be a little impatient; it’s always a lot of fun. It was great to spend the day with everyone.”
Even though the junior team didn’t win, they enjoyed being able to spend the day with friends and classmates.
“My favorite thing was playing with and against my friends. I was motivated to win, but it obviously didn’t work. It was still a lot of fun,” said Cate Milroy, 11.
The coaches played a huge role in the game by helping the girls learn the ropes of the game, and the senior coaches were excited to take home a win.
“We were very motivated to win and gave our all. I would like to add that we were undefeated and should have an alumni game,” said Jordan Davis, senior coach.
One major question this year was how the game would be played, due to the coronavirus. Luckily, there was a simple solution. Everyone had to wear a mask when they walked into the stadium, so the game was played more cautiously than in past years. Students were very thankful that the administration, and superintendent Dr. Wayne Burke, approved Powderpuff this year.
“I’m so grateful that we were still able to have Powderpuff this year and so appreciative to those who put it together. I think it’s a great fundraiser for After-Prom,” said Todd.
Powderpuff may have looked different this year, but the juniors and seniors still came together and were able to enjoy the tradition.
