80% of Tokyo Citizens Think Olympics Should Be Postponed

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics had to be postponed by a year. However, most of Tokyo’s residents think the games should be further delayed (photo courtesy AP News).

In Japan, a survey was done about whether or not people think the Tokyo Olympics will take place this year. More than 80% of the people who took the survey said they didn’t think the Olympics would or should take place. Tokyo is high in COVID-19 cases. There was a state of emergency called in which Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said that he was positive the Olympics would happen. If the Olympics are to happen, changes would likely be made.

The Olympics were already pushed back last year. It is a strong possibility that this could happen again this year. Possibly pushing back the Olympics for the second time shows how long COVID-19 has been affecting the world.
