Last night President Biden gave his first primetime address to the nation in the White House East Room, where he laid out his plan to finally bring the nation back to normal. He encouraged the nation to continue protecting themselves, saying this is “not the time to not stick with the rules.” He set the goal of having every American adult in line for a vaccine by May 1. But he also made clear that this does not mean everyone got one by May 1, it was only a goal, and would take the effort of every American. Biden finished his hopeful speech by laying out his hope that Americans would be able to host small gatherings by the 4th of July allowing Americans to “mark our independence from this virus” while celebrating the county’s.

This speech came just hours after Biden signed into law the $1.9 trillion relief bill that passed in Congress earlier this week.

“This historic legislation is about rebuilding the backbone of this country,” said Biden as he signed the legislation from the Oval Office.

This bill will, among other things, deliver a $1,400 stimulus check into the bank account of every American adult. In addition, it will extend the $300 unemployment benefits into early September and deliver several tax credits to the nation, some of which the Democrats would like to make permanent changes. However, critics of the bill – mainly Republicans – say it’s a bloated Democrat wishlist that doesn’t actually address the nation’s issues.
