7.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Mexico
Although damage was minor from the earthquake, there still was quite a bit of damage to cars. As buildings weren’t completely destroyed, cars and other objects were damaged (Photo Courtesy NBC News).
Many people were startled awake around 10 p.m. in Acapulco, Mexico last night due to a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that shook the resort city. The most damage done was a few crumbled buildings, a few rock slides, and leaving approximately 1.6 million people without power. Only resulting in one death, and no reported injuries, Mexico was fortunate and left with no serious damage to the city.
In 1838, San Francisco experienced the San Andres Earthquake. This earthquake resulted in 3,000 total deaths. The magnitude of San Andres was a 7.9, which was only 0.9 larger than Acapulco, Mexico’s. This shows how lucky Mexico was to experience a 7.0 magnitude, and only result with one death and no major mass amounts of damage.
