A mass burial site in a forest in Ukraine was unearthed when Ukrainian forces recaptured the area from Russian authorities. The site contained 445 graves, but when bodies were unearthed the bodies showed indications of torture. According to Oleksandr Filchakov, head of the Kharkiv prosecutor’s office, some bodies had hands tied behind backs and ropes around their necks. The site showed “what the occupation has led to,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

It was not clear how many died in that area, but the conflict is rising as Ukrainian civilians and soldiers were buried in that area and possibly other areas. The Biden Administration has made plans for a $600 million military aid package to be delivered to Ukraine on Thursday, which contains many weapons that supported the momentum of the Ukrainian defense in the initial Russian invasion.
