Check in on Attendance

The attendance window is another way students can leave without having to enter the office. But since the beginning of the school year, it hasn’t been in use. Therefore, some students may not know what it is.

“The window attendance is supposed to be set up for kids who are actually inside the building who are leaving for an appointment or [have] the need to go to their car. You would have to already be inside the building in order to sign out,” said Rena Trappe, administrative secretary.

The window has not been able to be accessed by students, due to it being closed until the correct staffing is acquired.

Trappe said, “Right now it’s a staffing issue. Just due to the fact that I’m new to the district, Courtney Asbury, the front desk is new to the district as well.”

Since many school districts are facing this staffing problem, it can be hard to put things, like the attendance window, into use.

“So until we can get fully staffed, I’m not sure when the actual window will be up and running,” Trappe added.

Although staffing can be an issue, many have thought about new ways to improve the attendance window when the time comes to use it.

“I would like to be able to see it transition to an electronic form where you sign your time in, your reason, and make it more like a google form,” Trappe said.

Once the attendance window is open, it can eliminate two people doing the same jobs which can also save some time.

“I would take care of everybody who goes out. [Asbury] takes care of everybody coming in,” Trappe said.

Students will be notified when the attendance window is ready for use. But until the staffing is found, students are required to go through the office for any needs regarding leaving or returning to the school.
